Nadja N. Lopez, Ph.D.

Dr. Lopez is a clinical psychologist and the Senior Director of the Freedman Center at Teachers 21 within William James College. Dr. Lopez was the former Training Director for the American Psychological Association Approved internship program at the Freedman Center. Her primary clinical and research interests focus on treatment of anxiety and depression, school climate, and social emotional learning, culturally responsive treatment and teaching, and systems change. Dr. Lopez received her Masters and Doctorate degrees from the University of Miami, Florida, in Clinical Psychology, with a specialty in children and families. She completed her pre-doctoral internship and post-doctoral fellowships at Boston Children’s Hospital, and then became a full time staff psychologist there for the next 12 years. 

 

At Boston Children’s Hospital, Dr. Lopez directed a philanthropy-based Initiative focusing on prevention of adolescent depression. She has presented at numerous national and international conferences on the topics of depression and suicide prevention, social emotional learning, and community practices for prevention of mental illness and promotion of emotional health. She has written multiple publications to support student mental health, including the book Anxiety and Depression in the Classroom: A Guide to Promoting Self-Regulation in Young Students.
